Spirit to be a Young Entrepreneur

Youth is the most appropriate time to be creative and to develop entrepreneurial potential. Although Indonesia has a lot of human resources, it does not rule out the possibility of many youngsters that care less about business and economic problems. In Indonesia itself, there are so many chances for business opportunity, not only for the adults, but also for teenagers. The government also already gave so many ways for the teenager to start their own business. For example, for college student there is something called PKM (Pekan Kreativitas Mahasiswa). PKM is a place where the students clash their idea and someday they might be able to turn it into a business opportunity. There are lots of opportunities to become young entrepreneur.

“An entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages a business undertaking, assuming the risk for the sake of profit.”1. So, young entrepreneur means an entrepreneur in young ages. Many people want to be rich with something they did. Become an entrepreneur is one of the ways to be rich. Because of youth is the most appropriate time to be develop entrepreneurial potential, many teenagers have already started a business in many ways. The writer has distributed some questionnaires to 20 teenagers in Yogyakarta randomly.

Half of them have been started a business. However, half of them still have not started a business. The result was so surprising, as it had balance result between “have started” and “haven’t started”. It means teenagers understand enough about business. For those who have started a business, they have been started a business when they were between 10 until 18 years old. Then, they usually start from become a reseller. According to data, there are 8 persons said that they have started resell some products. One person has started to sell secondhand clothes and one other has started with produce her own product. “Reseller means someone who buys goods from a manufacturer and resells them to customer unchanged”2.  Until now, their business is still running.

Those who have not started a business, the reasons why they have not started a business are they did not know how to start, they have not ready yet, they did not have enough time, and they did not have enough money. On the other hand, those who have started a business said that with business their money increased, they had a new  experience, they had a new knowledge about business.

“Starting a new business is not easy”3. That statement is not only fit in adult but also fit in teenagers.  All of the answers from those who have started a business said that they just be brave to try. First of all, they just try to sell for their friends around. After that, many friends supported what they did. Finally, they continued their own business.

Actually, there are so many opportunities around if teenagers want to start a business. According to the questionnairs, Youth is the best place to look for many relations. That’s where many opportunities appear. Try to find something new which can be sold and add teenager’s pocket money. School and university always support teenager’s business idea. It will become a place where teenager can add their entrepreneurship knowledge. “Entrepreneurship is a daily game of kill or be killed, with high stakes; your livelihood and your future. For every triumph, there may be 10 defeats. There may be many rejections before your first sale. Lesson learned from a series of failed marketing tactics.”4
